Nemerteans are typically soft-bodied, free-living benthic marine worms found intertidally or sublittorally buried into soft muddy or sandy sediments, creeping amongst algal fronds, or beneath boulders and rocks. Several species live on land or in freshwater, a few are commensal or parasitic, and one group is entirely pelagic.
This Synopsis contains details on 80 species on the British list, including one from terrestrial and two from freshwater habitats. 5 other species, which have been found around the Isles of Scilly, are briefly referenced.
This is the second edition of a Synopsis first published in 1982.
