Introductory sections describe the soils, landscape history, climate, habitats, history of botancial recording, data sources and analysis. There is an extensive reference list and gazetteer of places mentioned in the text.
Species accounts include Latin and English names, dates of introduction (for anlien species), habitats, analysis of distribution, status and changes over time. Over 1000 tetrad (2×2 km) dot maps, many with coloured underlays showing associated soils, show the distribution of plants and mosses with more than a dozen records.
