From 1863 until his death early in 1888, John Day drew and painted a succession of orchids flowering in his own collection in Tottenham, in the neighbouring London nurseries, and at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The result is a stunning archive of orchid illustrations, 280 of which have been selected for reproduction in this superb volume. The history, background, and botany of the orchids depicted is introduced and thoroughly explored by leading authorities, Philip Cribb and Michael Tibbs.
The book is published in the wake of a fine exhibition mounted at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
