The Anatomy of European Woods: An Atlas for the Identification of European Trees, Shrubs and Dwarf Shrubs (Anatomie Europäischer Hölzer: Ein Atlas zur Bestimmung Europäischer Baum-, Strauch- und Zwergstrauchhölzer), was out of print for a long time in a bilingual form. Since since its publication in 1990 it has become a standard work for all disciplines that deal with the determination of wood, be it in the context of archaeology, ecology, dendrochronology systematic botany or forensic science. This authoritative reference provides a systematic presentation of the anatomical features of woody species throughout Europe. About half of all tree, shrub and dwarf shrub species occurring in Western Europe are characterized with microphotographs, distribution maps and descriptions for approximately 700 species. It includes all families, 95% of the genera and approximately 65% of all woody species.
