Following the publication of two departmental atlases, the Loiret in 2007 and the Eure-et-Loir in 2009, the National Botanical Conservatory of the Paris Basin continued the work of inventory and synthesis of naturalistic information concerning the wild flora of the Central Loire valley.
Initiated in 1999, with the creation of a regional delegation of the CBNBP in Orléans, this work is the fruit of more than twenty years effort by the botanists of the delegation and the many partners (individuals or structures) who contributed to the CBNBP.
This atlas summarises the two million items of data collected in this exercise and presented here in an accessible manner, with each of the 1,550 native or naturalized species being the subject of an illustrated page with:
• a photograph
• a regional distribution map associated with a commentary on its current distribution linked to a historical section based on extensive documentation work;
• its ecology: the habitats frequented;
• its status (protection, invasives, etc.);
• the name of the species, its past or current uses.
Beyond these species accounts, the atlas also aims to encourage people to discover the large natural landscapes of the region, its vegetation, botanical treasures and highlights issues of concern.
