Carex Europaea, Volume 1. 3rd edition

This the third and fully updated edition of Carex Europaea, Volume 1: The Genus Carex L. (Cyperaceae) in Europe: Accepted Names, Hybrids, Synonyms, Distribution, Chromosome Numbers.

Carex Europaea, volume 1, was published in 2011, followed by an updated second edition produced as an e-book version, in 2015. This included some corrections and other improvements but now, in 2021, a third, completely updated edition is due to be  published.

This book covers the nomenclature and distribution of European taxa and hybrids within the genus Carex (Cyperaceae). All European taxa are given their accepted names and all known synonyms, both with full citation. Altogether there are more than 4500 names involved. The distribution of all taxa within Europe on a per country basis is indicated, as well as their general worldwide distribution. Providing they are known,the chromosome numbers (2n) are given for accepted taxa. All known European hybrids are mentioned, most of them named, the others with only their hybrid formula. The European distribution of all hybrids is shown albeit this is probably incomplete. There is a 140 page section at the end of the book with full colour photos of about two thirds of all European species and some hybrids. This book aims to be a reference work for everybody working in the field of Botany and Nature management or interested in the genus Carex.
