Clive Stace’s Concise Flora of the British Isles is an abridged yet comprehensive version of the 4th edition (2nd printing) of his New Flora of the British Isles (2021), offering the same complete coverage and user-friendly features in a compact, more portable format; strongly bound with a waterproof plastic cover.
The text is largely in the form of keys to species and subspecies covered in the New Flora, with only very brief descriptions, these do include habitat and distribution summaries. Some illustrations have also been sacrificed.
All readers, especially those unfamiliar with the New flora, are advised to read the brief introductory pages before consulting the book. Users of the New Flora should however, have little difficulty in using this lightweight version (0.5 kgs rather than 1.2 kgs) which is similarly laid out and organised.
Significantly smaller in size than the New Flora this concise version it is eminently suitable to use as a field guide.
