Contemporarily half-bound in brown leather with profusely decorated spine in gilt and 5 spine bands, red marbled paper boards, endpapers and edges of textblock; lightly rubbed and worn for age, moderate in places; solidly bound, though rear hinge starting to crack. Internally in Fine condition, very crisp, clean and bright with the lightest of age toning and light foxing constrained almost entirely to the first and last couple of leaves; small ownership inscription to top of first blank dated 1935; front pastedown has the armorial bookplate of the botanist John Clavell Mansel-Pleydell, author of the 1874 The Flora of Dorsetshire. List of subscribers at rear, including Charles Darwin. Overall Very good-. Photos available on request. Interesting provenance.
