Draculas have been popular in horticulture since the late C19, but it wasn’t until the 1970’s that they were separated as a genus from from Masdevallia. At that point about 50 or so species were known but exploration of neotropical regions since then, especially in the Andes, has led to the discvery of nearly 100 new species. This book provides descriptions and illustrations of the 59 species of Dracula currently known from Ecuador. As well as an introduction to the genus, the book provides a catalogue, colour plates of 44 of the species and a chapter on cultivation.
