This new volume looks at the impact, assessment, and remediation of various environmental contaminants. It discusses the environmental changes that can occur due to arsenic, heavy metals, herbicides, fluorides, microplastics, chemical fertilizers contaminants; the remedial measures of these environmental contaminants; and how to analyze trace-level concentrations of contaminants. The volume relays the basics of environment, pollution, and bioremediation techniques and proceeds to discuss arsenic in water-soil-plant-human continuum; heavy metal (Pb, Cd and Cr) contamination in soil worldwide; micro-plastics as emerging contaminants; herbicide contamination in groundwater along with remediation strategies; fluoride contamination in the ecosystem and remediation strategies; the impact of pharmaceutical contaminants in the environment; and environmental pollution caused by the incorrect application of synthetic fertilizers and remediation. Key features: Discusses methods of trace analysis for persistent pollutants Explores phytoremediation and green approaches for the removal of contaminants Looks at the role of nanotechnology on remediation of environmental contaminants Considers agronomic intervention for mitigation of environmental pollutants Presents advancements in pesticide formulation technology for reducing load of contaminants With important information summarized in charts, diagrams, and tables, this new book will be useful to researchers, scientists, and students and faculty to expand their knowledge.

“Heavy metals, pesticide residues, microplastics, pharmaceutical medicines, and other new and emerging environmental pollutants have been covered in depth in this book . . . The interaction of these pollutants with various critical environmental processes has been addressed in detail. This book also includes information on the pollutants’ toxicity and human health risks. Intensive technologies, bringing the most sophisticated science to reduce the detrimental impacts of persistent pollutants, have been discussed. Perceiving pollution as transboundary and global, this interdisciplinary approach provides pertinent details about significant pollutants and their environmental consequences, allowing the readers to build a solid foundation of knowledge. . . . [T]his book will inspire and widen the perspective of the students, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders.” ” —From the Foreword by Debapriya Mondal, PhD, Principal Epidemiology Scientist, Environmental Epidemiology Group, Chemical and Environmental Effects Department, Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards Directorate, UK Health Security Agency
