Chris Boon and Alan Outen (flowering plants and bryophytes respectively) have each spent many years researching the literature and recording in the field. With help from members of local and national societies they have collated some 400,000 records on which this book is based. For flowering plants the recording period is 1987-2006 whilst for the bryophytes it is 1970-2010.
For the rarer species of flowering plant all records back to 1597 are given. The remainder have distribution maps which also show, for comparison, the data collected by John and Chris Dony during 1970-1975.
Introductory chapters set the flora in context with the history of botanical recording and the geology of the county. The work is enhanced with photographs by Richard Revels and paintings from the 19th century by Caroline Gay
