The Gramineae, or grass family, supply a large number of economically important crops, in addition to their functions such as fodder, building materials, etc. This first part gives a general introduction to the morphology of grasses, a key to the 31 tribes, and deals with the first ten tribes including rice and bamboo. In Central Africa, these groups are represented by 15 genera and 26 species.
