Volume 5 of a collection of 7 volumes which cover most of the moths of Europe. It is the first of two volumes dedicated to Noctuids. The second is volume 6.
This volume deals exclusively with Erebidae, Eutelidae and some of the Noctuidae (up to Apameini), found in Europe and neighbouring areas. The Erebidae now include some moths formerly placed in separate families but downgraded to subfamily level i.e. the Arctiinae and Lymantriinae, which were covered in Volume 1 of this series. For each species, a precise description is given as well as useful information on their biology.
There are 123 plates illustrating 750 species with 1400 photos, which include the genitalia of both sexes as well as other details and variations. Their biology is highlighted (food plants, biotopes, flight-times and distribution). Status of some taxa has been revised. Distribution maps are also provided for most species.
