2nd edition, corrected and enlarged. Book Condition: Good+.
Half dark brown leather with brown marbled boards and gilt spine titles. Lightly bumped corners and lightly to moderately rubbed all round. Cracked hinges but still solidly bound. Internally crisp and clean, moderate foxing to plates. Bookplate of Eleonora Armitage dated 1892. Earlier bookplate of Robert M. Lingwood to front pastedown. Overall Good+. Photos available on request. A clean corrected and enlarged 2nd edition with interesting provenance. Eleanora Armitage (1865-1961) was a founding member of the Moss Exchange Club, the British Ecological Society and the British Bryological Society, as well as a member of the British Association for the Advancement of Science and the Royal Horticultural Society. She was an accomplished collector and her herbarium is now held at Bristol Museum. The book’s previous owner, the botanist and entomologist Robert Maulkin Lingwood (1813-1887), notably toured Ireland with Charles Babington and is credited with finding Fumaria densiflora.
