1st edition. Book Condition: Very good.
Half-bound in very dark (black?) leather with textured burgundy cloth boards, 5 spine bands with gilt titles and banding, red leather spine title label, copper endpapers. Significant wear to corners and spine, which is faded to blue; a few marks to the FFEP. Final page of text (p. 307), rear endpaper and rear board almost detached – held fairly solidly by a single binding string; the rest of the binding feels solid. Internally very crisp, clean and bright with just a small amount of occasional spotting and a well thumbed title page and contents page; free from inscription. Overall Fair due to the state of the rear board, otherwise Very Good. Photos available on request. An attractive natural history of the South Downs and Sussex Downs.
