Hardback
Author: Lowe, E. J.
Published by: George Bell & Sons
2nd edition. Book Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket: .
Vol 1.: 348pp + 36 plates & Vol. 2: 492pp + 42 plates. Original green cloth with gilt spine titles and fern design on covers; clean and bright with light bumping and wear to top and bottom of spine and corners, very slight change of colour to spine (slightly moreso vol. 2), and small library numbers in white near bottom of spine. Black endpapers; hinges just starting to crack but binding remains firm. Light soiling to outside edges of textblock. Library label and slight evidence of sticker removal to FFEPs and lib. stamps to prelims only. Only light age toning and very little foxing throughout; mostly crisp and clean, including plates, a few of which just have some small light marks; plate XLVI has a darker mark that does not affect the image. Vol. 1 has 36 plates (lacking plate 9, however there is no physical evidence of its removal); Vol. 2 has 42 plates as issued. No tissue guards, but again no physical evidence of removal; there were often inconsistencies in how these were bound. Overall a nice set.
