Pictorial Guide to the Plants of the Indian Sub-Continent

A small handy volume to nearly 500 plants. Organised alphabetically by genera. In most cases there are two entries per page with corresponding photographs on the opposite page. The descriptions include scientific name and etymology, common name in English/local language, family, botanical description, distribution and the uses of the plant. In some instances, superscript numbers appended to the scientific name, enable cross referencing to keys provided at the end of the book, that can be used to help identify similar plants and/or genera. Indices of plant names and glossary provided. The book certainly fills a gap and would be useful to those with some botanical knowledge. For those with more limited experience, it should be noted that there is no general key or other aids for identification and that the quality of the photo-reproductions is adequate but not exceptional.
