From building a bridge and crafting a catapult to making a marble run and creating a crane, Science Lab is packed with activities that young readers can do at home to explore, discover, and understand the way the world works. How are rockets fired into space? How is energy harnessed? How do buildings survive earthquakes? With fun, hands-on projects and experiments, this book reveals how science, technology, engineering, and maths are woven through the world around us. Simple steps guide readers through the stages of each project, with spotlights on the key science, technology, engineering, and maths learning involved in each project along the way. “Take it further” panels encourage young readers to experiment and take their projects to the next level, developing their independence, initiative, and creative thinking skills. With a focus on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and maths) across school curricula to prepare children for the modern world, Science Lab will inspire and engage inquisitive young readers. It’s perfect for school projects, homework help, and firing up imaginations. This is the latest title in the award-winning series that includes Home Lab (2016), which won the Royal Society’s Young People’s Science Book Prize, and Outdoor Maker Lab (2017).

A great way to show how to have fun -- Child age 9 * Toppsta * I loved the photos and all the step by step instructions... if I had been younger I would have loved this book especially in the long school holidays -- Parent with children age 11 (Year 6) and Year 8 * Toppsta * The experiments make you want to start straight away... with photographic step-by-step instructions and an explanation of the science behind them. They all inspire further learning too. A thoroughly great, quality book. Would recommend! -- Parent with child age 7 * Toppsta * This book is bright, beautiful and colourful and has everything that the young and aspirational scientist might need to explore the world around them -- Parent with child age 5 * Toppsta * The illustrations are very good and I would recommend it for any fans of science -- Child age 8 * Toppsta * I think this book is excellent... I can't wait to take it in to show my friends at school -- Child age 10 * Toppsta * It is really good if you like science and experiments... I recommend the book for Year Two and Key Stage Two children -- Parent with child age 6 * Toppsta * Looking through they are certainly all exciting and challenging activities to inspire and possibly stretch the young STEM enthusiast -- Parent with child age 5 * Toppsta *
