Studying the Discomycetes : from initiation to advanced levels

Written by  René Dougoud with the collaboration of J.-P. Priou & N. Van Voore and with a preface by  M. Hairaud, Studying the Discomycetes from initiation to advanced levels, was originally published in French as’ S’initier et se perfectionner à l’étude des Discomycètes’ in 2023 .  The French edition was very well received leading to the publication of this English version which has been produced with the help of members of the British Mycological Society.

This book is the first guide specifically and entirely dedicated to the study of ascomycetes belonging mainly to the orders Pezizales, Helotiales and Orbiliales, (from Helvella to Lachnum and from Peziza to Ciboria, Mollisia, Hymenoscyphus, Scutellinia and so on). The book is aimed at both beginners and more experienced mycologists, and explores all aspects of the study of these fungi: their life traits, morphology, microscopy, and genetics, as well as where and how to collect them, and what literature to consult. Often neglected as a group due to a lack of complete and practical methods to study them, the descriptions, advice, photos and drawings in this book should prove useful in addressing these issues.
