A full leather hardback, having been rebacked using original full leather boards with elaborately gilt tooled spine with 5 spine bands and gilt titles on green leather label, marbled endpapers (part original, part new) and textblock edges; lightly bumped corners. Internally very crisp, clean and bright with just a little foxing to the front 3 leaves; small sticker to paste down stating – Purchased out of the legacy of Edward Phillips M.A. of Magdalene Hall to That Society 1855. A small number of leaves or parts thereof have been torn out, affecting pp.153-4, 229-10, 277-8, 418-9; it is possible that other losses have been missed in this 908 page book. 3rd edition in a single volume with corrections and additional genera; includes over 500 illustrations.
